Braided hooklinks are soft, flexible, and highly supple, allowing your rig to move naturally and settle over debris. They’re ideal for subtle presentations or low-resistance rigs. Mono hooklinks are stiffer, offering more control, better anti-tangle properties, and improved reset ability when fish or nuisance species move the hookbait.
A coated braid is best when you need added stiffness for anti-tangle performance or you’re fishing over gravel, mussels, or snags. The coating helps the rig reset properly and protects the fibres. Supple braid is better for low-visibility, natural presentations on soft silt or weed. Many anglers strip back part of the coating to create a semi-rigid “hinged” effect.
Hooklink length depends on rig type and lakebed conditions. Short 3–5 inch hooklinks work well for solid bags or firm spots where you want instant hooking. Longer 8–12 inch hooklinks suit silty or weedy bottoms, allowing the bait to settle naturally. Adjust length based on how carp feed and how your rig resets after disturbance.
Boom sections add stiffness to the rig, helping kick the bait away from the lead and improving presentation. They’re great for hinge rigs, Ronnie rigs, and combi rigs. Booms enhance anti-tangle performance, especially when casting at range. Use fluorocarbon or stiff-coated braid to create a firm boom section that resets every time.
